5th Grade STEM: Egg Drop Challenge!

This week, our 5th Grade STEM students took on the first round of the classic Egg Drop Challenge with Mr. Breitkreutz!
So, what is an Egg Drop? Students are putting their skills in measurement, technical writing, problem-solving, and engineering design to the test. Their challenge? Brainstorm, design, and build a protective container using only trash and recyclable materials that can keep an egg safe when dropped from above the cafeteria! The first drop is just the beginning! Students will reflect on their designs, analyze what worked (and what didn't), and head back to the drawing board to make improvements that could increase their egg's chances of survival. Next, students will explore the history and science of parachutes before designing and incorporating their own parachute systems into their egg capsules for another round of testing.
Will their eggs survive the next drop? Stay tuned to find out how their eggs fare next week!
